We Built a Sweeter Shopify Store for Frost Buttercream
Frost Buttercream needed more than a pretty storefront. The brand sells a premium, education-heavy food product: all-natural Italian meringue bakery buttercream made with real butter and egg whites. Vareweb shaped the Shopify experience around one clear job - help shoppers understand the product fast, trust it quickly, and move from curiosity to cart without friction.

The Challenge
Selling a New Food Product Online Means Explaining the Product Before Asking for the Sale
Frost Buttercream sits in an unusual space. It is not a standard grocery-store frosting, and it is not a full bakery service either. It is a gourmet shortcut for home bakers who want bakery-quality frosting without starting from scratch. The Shopify store had to explain that difference immediately while still feeling light, polished, and fun.
CHALLENGE 01
A Product That Needed Education Before Conversion
Most shoppers understand cake, cookies, and frosting. Fewer immediately understand why a premium Italian meringue buttercream container belongs in their freezer, how to prepare it, or why it tastes different from shelf-stable grocery frosting. The store needed a buying path that explained the product in plain language before asking for the add-to-cart action.
CHALLENGE 02
Trust Had to Do Heavy Lifting on the Product Page
Food eCommerce needs proof. Shoppers want to know what it tastes like, how it ships, what ingredients are inside, how to store it, and whether other customers actually liked it. The product detail page had to combine product photography, ingredient clarity, usage guidance, reviews, and reassurance in one clean conversion flow.
CHALLENGE 03
The Brand Needed to Work Across DTC, Recipes, Local Stores, and Merch
The storefront could not behave like a single-product landing page only. Frost Buttercream needed a Shopify structure that could sell the hero product, support a small merch catalog, publish recipe ideas, collect email subscribers, answer preparation questions, and help customers find local stockists. The work was to turn those pieces into one coherent eCommerce system instead of isolated pages.
The Solution
A Shopify Build That Feels Like a Brand Experience, Not Just a Product Page
Vareweb structured the Shopify experience around a simple conversion logic: introduce the frosting, explain why it is different, show exactly how to use it, build confidence with ingredients and reviews, then make buying or finding it locally easy.
Conversion-Focused Product Page
Built the hero product page around product photography, clean ingredient messaging, preparation guidance, rating proof, reviews, and a direct buying experience.
Education-First Homepage Flow
Homepage sections were organized to explain the product fast: what it is, what makes it clean, how it works, and why it is easier than traditional frosting prep.
Review & Trust Layer
Integrated product proof directly into the buying path so a shopper does not have to leave the page to understand taste, ease of use, and customer response.
Recipe Content Engine
Recipes were set up as a content layer that shows real use cases and turns "what can I do with this?" into practical inspiration for cakes, cookies, cereal treats, and seasonal desserts.
Store Locator Integration
Added a retail discovery path through a stockist locator so shoppers who prefer local buying can still move forward instead of leaving the brand experience.
Email Capture & Retention Setup
Placed newsletter capture around the brand's "sweet to meet you" tone, giving Frost a retention channel for launches, recipes, events, and store updates.
Tech Stack
A Lean Shopify Setup for a Focused Food Brand
The build was kept intentionally lean. For a small DTC food brand, the site needed to be easy to manage, visually polished, mobile-friendly, and flexible enough to support product sales, recipes, stockists, reviews, and basic retention without unnecessary development overhead.
